Centre for Global Wood Security

I am Professor of Forest Ecology at Bangor University. My research encompasses the disciplines of ecology and environmental science, with a particular focus on forest ecosystems, soil microbiology, biogeochemistry, and carbon dynamics. I investigate the relationships among tree species composition, root systems, mycorrhizae, and soil microbial communities, as well as the impacts of environmental changes on forest health and carbon sequestration mechanisms. This work is essential for promoting sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation.

Additionally, I utilize remote sensing and machine-learning techniques to assess forest biomass and health, while also examining the contributions of agroforestry and sustainable agriculture to ecosystem resilience and productivity. This research provides valuable insights that inform evidence-based policy and management strategies aimed at fostering resilient ecosystems in the face of environmental change.
