About
I am a postdoctoral researcher working with Prof. Edwards at the Centre for Global Wood Security, University of Cambridge, where my research focuses on forest carbon dynamics, structural complexity, and the functional and environmental drivers shaping ecosystem processes. In the context of accelerating climate change, forests play a critical role in maintaining ecological stability and supporting global climate resilience, and my work aims to quantify their contributions to carbon sequestration while highlighting their significance in mitigation strategies.
I completed my PhD in Forest Ecology at the Department of Plant Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, where I investigated how forest diversity, structural attributes, and functional traits respond to climatic and edaphic gradients across Pakistan. This research involved extensive field-based measurement of aboveground biomass and identification of key environmental determinants, and was supported by a WWF Small Grant in recognition of its conservation relevance. I further enhanced my expertise in ecological modelling, quantitative analysis, and data-driven environmental assessment through research at the Department of Biology – Ecoinformatics & Biodiversity at Aarhus University, Denmark. Beyond research, I have contributed to environmental outreach and youth-led conservation initiatives, serving as President of the Plantarian Association at QAU and as Departmental Leader for the PM Green Youth Movement.
My current research interests include forest ecosystem functioning, climate-driven shifts in biomass and carbon dynamics, and strategies to enhance the resilience, sustainability, and long-term conservation of forest ecosystems under rapidly changing environmental conditions.
