Assoc. Professor Robert Bryant

I am an Associate Professor at the University of Sheffield with a broad interest in Earth Observation and Global Change. I have worked, collaborated and published research across all seven continents to develop and implement new observing technologies and techniques to investigate landscape change at a range of space and time scales, and I specialise in the use of ground/near-earth methods [e.g. spectroradiometry, UAVs and TLS] for calibration and validation of satellite remote sensing data. 

I have interests in the use of geospatial data to detect and quantify the impacts of illegal selective logging, mining development, and wildfires on forest resources and biodiversity at global and regional scales. My research aims to develop and implement new observing technologies that can address the need for reliable, rapid, multi-scale monitoring/inventory requirements. Current research includes projects that involve the synergistic use of Unpiloted Airborne Vehicles [UAVs], Artificial Intelligence and Cubesat retrievals for rapid landscape survey, and the assessment of forest habitats and resources for conservation and management.
