About
I am a senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Forestry Science and Biodiversity, Faculty of Forestry and Environment, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). My work focuses on forest ecology, restoration, and the role of forest systems in climate mitigation. I integrate field ecology, biodiversity assessments and soil studies to understand how tropical forest ecosystem’s function and how they can be managed more effectively under accelerating environmental change.
My research also builds on my doctoral work on the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms that maintain species diversity in tropical forests, particularly high-value dipterocarp timber species in Malaysia. This includes experimental and comparative studies on density and distance-dependent processes, environmental adaptation, and the links between plant traits, conservation status and commercial exploitation globally.
My current projects examine soil carbon sequestration in isolated forest reserves, the long-term performance of urban forest tree species, and the development of practical frameworks to enhance biodiversity in urban and semi-urban landscapes. Much of my work aligns with SDG priorities and involves close collaboration with industry partners, government agencies and NGOs on reforestation, carbon programmes and ecological monitoring.
I am particularly interested in how tropical forest dynamics, species interactions and human-modified landscapes shape long-term ecosystem resilience.
