I am a Professor of Sustainability Science based at Lund University. I co-lead the Lund University Profile Area on Nature-based Future Solutions and the VR Swedish Centre of Excellence on Climate Extremes (Climes). My research group focuses on the human dimensions of environmental change, including questions of responsibility, equity, and power. I examine how climate loss and damage impacts individuals and communities across the globe and why people chose to stay and resist in the face of climate change. This perspective requires examining dynamics at multiple levels from individuals to communities and structures over land, resources, and forests. I have worked extensively across the Global South for more than 25 years, but also in Europe / Scandinavia.
My interests are broad and research includes both theoretical advancements on climate/environment and development as well as empirical and methodological development in areas of disproportionate impacts of climate extemes, intersectionality, immobility resilience and adaptation, and governance of loss and damage. I have a track record of engagement in interdisciplinary, collaborative, and inclusive research. I partake in collective science-policy processes such as IPCC and IPBES. I am editor-in-chief for Global Sustainability.
